After teaching history in Liverpool 8 for thirty years, Alex joined the DfES Understanding Slavery Intitative, then the development team for The International Slavery Museum, Liverpool. Since then she has worked on decolonising collections and taught Slavery and Heritage at the University of Liverpool, where she is an Honorary History Fellow. She is a member of the Liverpool Black History Research Group, the British Black History: Local Perspectives Network, the Centre for the Study of International Slavery and the Society for Caribbean Studies.
